Abendrot separates website infrastructure measurement, optional email updates, public GitHub download counts, and app behavior.

Website measurement

The website uses Cloudflare's existing aggregate edge/zone analytics to understand visits, requested pages, referrers, country, device class, browser, and operating system. Like any hosting provider, Cloudflare processes standard request data such as IP addresses and user-agent strings under its own privacy policy. Abendrot uses the aggregate reports and does not build visitor profiles or join them to other records.

The website also uses Google Analytics with Consent Mode to measure page views, scrolls, outbound links, downloads, form interactions, and aggregate traffic. When a visitor starts or retries a macOS download from the website, it sends a custom app_download event. This records a download start, not whether the app was installed or opened. Before you choose, or if you continue without analytics cookies, the Google tag sends cookieless measurement pings. These may include the page address and title, referrer, browser and device information, screen resolution, approximate geography derived from the connection, and standard request data processed by Google. Abendrot does not send an account ID, email address, or custom user identifier to Google Analytics.

If you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics may set first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_* for up to 180 days so reports can recognize return visits and measure users and sessions. Advertising storage, ad personalization, Google signals, and ad-user-data consent remain disabled. Google processes this information under the Google Privacy Policy.

A strictly necessary first-party cookie named abendrot_analytics_consent remembers your choice for up to 180 days. Continuing without analytics cookies still records aggregate cookieless page-view events, but does not let Abendrot recognize you as a returning visitor. Google may model aggregate users and sessions when its eligibility thresholds are met.

These cookies, browser-storage settings, Google Analytics, and the custom download event apply to the Abendrot website only. The Abendrot Mac app does not use cookies, does not include Google Analytics, and sends no analytics or usage telemetry.

Email updates

If you choose to sign up on the homepage or download page, the email address you provide is stored in Cloudflare D1 so Abendrot can send occasional updates about free software. It is not sold or used for advertising, and every update will include a way to unsubscribe.

The download page shows the email signup after a short delay on every visit. Visiting the download page sets a first-party browser storage flag named abendrot_download_visited; that flag lets the homepage show the signup after the same delay on later visits. A first-ever homepage visit does not show the signup, and dismissing it closes only the current view. Submitting the form is optional and is separate from Google Analytics.

Download counts

Abendrot downloads are distributed through GitHub Releases. GitHub records public aggregate download counts for release assets, such as the number of times a release file has been downloaded. Those counts are artifact downloads, not unique people or confirmed installations. GitHub processes standard connection data under its own privacy policy.

Mac app telemetry

The Abendrot Mac app sends no analytics or usage telemetry. Its statistics, such as warmed-time totals and warm sunset counts, are local app stats stored on your Mac.

Update checks

By default, the app uses Sparkle to check GitHub for updates. You can disable automatic updates in Settings. Update requests do not include an Abendrot account, device identifier, app settings, display information, or local usage statistics.
